Why do I need broadband
At the risk of sounding dramatic, broadband for business is an "adopt or die" technology. There are several reasons for this:
Big business is adopting electronic trading methods as the sole way of doing business with them. This revolution is rapidly working its way down the "supply chain" so that soon, and indeed with some already, the only way to trade with them is electronically. Broadband is a prerequisite for effective electronic trading.
Banks are going electronic in a massive way. They aim to eliminate the use of cheques which are very expensive to process. Soon the cost of sending a cheque will rise from a few pence to a few pounds.
Almost all government services are being providing via electronic means. All PAYE services, companies house processes and VAT processes are online with incentives for using them that go a long way towards funding the broadband investment.
Rapidly consumers will demand the increased levels of service that broadband helps to deliver. They will simply buy from the easiest place. This means effective electronic services for which a prerequisite is broadband.
The growth of sales via the internet, whether that is booking a hotel, buying a Christmas present or selling a second hand product via one of the online auction services, requires businesses to have effective online sales channels, ie a website. Keeping that website active, current and exciting requires broadband.
You have no choice.
