Choosing A Computer

If you are planning to purchase a computer, you may be overwhelmed by all the terminology and choices. Here are some general guidelines and recommendations to help you navigate through the complexity.

When it comes to choosing a computer firstly you have to ask yourself; what will i be using this computer for? Will you just want to send the occasional email, browse the web and run simple software? Or will you want to run specialised software such as CAD or Photo editing suites.

Once you have decided what the computers is needed for, you then have to decide if you want a lap top or a desktop computer. Are you always on the go? Or office based?

And then there are the choice between computers, will you want a PC which runs Microsoft and windows XP or Vista, or would you prefer a MAC, or perhaps you may even like to use LINUX as an operating system.

Once you've taken on board the various choices above, the next important thing is the size of the memory inside your computer. Memory will determine how quickly your computer will perform tasks.

Next task is to decide on the type of processor you will be requiring and what size hard drive you will require.

What to do, if your computer ceases to work.

If your computer is still under warranty, then call the supplier and have the machine picked up by their courier. Often before this happens the company who sold you the machine will usually run through a check list with you, which allows them to identify the problem. They will ascertain if it's a hardware or software issue and more importantly if it's a fixable via phone issue or is it a send back to the manufacturer issue.
